Day 5 Part 2

Oh the weather outside is frightful.....but my heart is so warm!! I'm just so in love with this little girl! I haven't held her a whole lot yet. Mainly just when we are sitting and talking to daddy or when I pick her up to carry her. My personal opinion is that if they don't want you to hold them then you shouldn't force it on them right at first. Olivia didn't even know me until 5 days ago. I'm allowing her to slowly warm up to me. I knew that the Guangzhou week was coming and I would be doing more walking which meant carrying her in the wrap. We did some shopping today and I had her in the wrap for a long time. She did great and laid her head on my chest alot. It was so sweet and it was done in her time, not mine. I'm not in a rush for her to bond with me because after 3 previous adoptions, I KNOW that she will. It's just a matter of time.

This morning at breakfast she cried again. I have no idea what sets her off during that time but she gets really sad. She also got really sad when she and I were looking at each other in the mirror. It must have brought back some memory.
Still sleeping with her Crocs on

This morning when she woke up she went straight for the computer and started tapping on the pad. She was expecting to see Daddy but he was at basketball practice with the boys. It was an hour later before he could call. She was very upset with him. She wouldn't even look at him for about 15 minutes. She would talk and laugh with Jackson, Joe and Ben but not her Daddy. Finally, he got her to laugh and she went back to her normal self. She has so little in her life right now that is constant. That is obviously a very important part of her life, which I'm sure makes Daddy very happy!

Here's a few pictures of her watching herself in the videos. She loves them and will laugh and laugh and jump up and down. When it ends, she taps the pad to play it agian.

The frogs represent the Zhuang Minority. THey are the largest minority in Guangxi. Mary thinks that Olivia has some Zhuang in her but not full.

We're off to Guangzhou in a couple of hours. I read here that the migrant workers are now able to begin leaving Guangzhou. This weather has wreaked havoc on all of China. We didn't have snow here but it's been so foggy and cold and rainy that my trip to Olivia's orphanage was cancelled.

Oh my! She is sooooooo cute!! I found that my Maya wrap (baby sling) was so helpful during the bonding process. I almost didn't use the stroller at all. At night I used it to walk up and down the halls to help her fall asleep.
Best wishes to you!

Lynn,

I love how much detail you are capturing in your posts. I didn't and now it all seems like a blur...

I know there are the good moments and the trying ones but it is all part of the process. Little by little you will see more and more of sweet Olivia. She is so blessed to have such a patient and understanding mommy to help her every step of the way through the process.

She is so beautiful and I am so happy she is finally almost home.

Take care of yourself and get as much rest as possible.

Blessings,
Lisa

I am back to see what has happened today. I have heard that the children are very protective of their shoes, she looks darling sleeping in her crocs.

Your blog has been so enjoyable to read. Olivia is beautiful. We have been home with Jing Wen for a week now and he is adjusting well. We too, don't force ourselves on him and let him come to us so I believe you are right on there. He is also having difficulty at bedtime with tearful episodes that last quite a long time with us right next to him. Good luck on Shamian Island. We loved the White Swan. Enjoy this time.

Lynn,

Yu are doing an awesome job over there! I am amazed at your strength. That Olivia certainyl lets you know what she is thinking and feeling. Isn;t that great. I love that she expressed hwe feelings about not getting to see/tlak to Daddy right away. It is very ehalthy and you need to feel a bit safe to express anger like that:)
