Olivia did wonderful on the flight. There were 6 families flying from Guangxi to Guangzhou. They set us all together in the middle of the plane. I can't imagine why! :) All of the babies did really well. Oliva cried when I buckled her in but then I put her on my lap and buckled her and she was happy. She actually enjoyed it. These other families have been invaluable to me. They are all very willing to help the pitiful woman all alone with her baby! It really is difficult to carry Olivia, my backpack and my carry on. Trying to load and unload and walk through the long airport is challenging. I think I'm due a good massage when I get home. (hint hint)
When we got off of the plane in Guangzhou I began getting really stuffed up. By the time I got into my room, I could barely breath. The air quality is very polluted here. It doesn't bother everyone and I don't normally have allergy problems but anytime I go outside now it hits me really hard. Medicine isn't helping. If anyone has suggestions please send them!!! It's still really cold here and it's raining non-stop. It's not as bad as Nanning though. And it is certainly not as bad as the provinces further North. There are adoptive families in some of them who could not make their Consulate appointments due to the weather. There is a possiblity that they will have to stay here 2 more weeks!
We are staying at the Victory Hotel on the Sha Mien Island. Our room is really nice. And it's CLEAN!! It is twice the size of a normal hotel room. We have a king sized bed and separate sitting area. The internet service is free here too. The only drawback is that the rooms are not heated. Yes, you read that correctly. This is normally a hot climate. They are not used to cold weather. I have 2 electric heaters in the room. It heats it fine but if we are out of the room for a while it gets chilly again. The hallways and the lobby are FREEZING! And again, like everywhere else, none of the shops or restaurants have heat.
After the exam we met in my hotel room with Brenda and Lynn and our guide to do the paperwork for the visa. Brenda played with Olivia while I filled out my forms. She taught her how to blow bubbles. It was so cute! Later I got her on video. She loves it! I think Olivia is beginning to feel like she belongs with me. She is initiating a lot of play. She has refused to even touch the ball that I brought until today. We kicked and threw it for about 20 minutes and she laughed and giggled the whole time. She got me to chase her and wanted me to tickle her. This is the first real playtime we've had. It was so much fun. She's going to love playing with her brothers when she gets home!!
The food situation is much better now. Today I had a cheeseburger from Lucy's and Papa John's pizza that I had delivered to the hotel! I'm happy! Olivia is not eating any of the foods that she used to. She' eating all table food now. Today she had a PB&J sandwich and french fries with ketchup. She loved them both.
I just got my first kiss from Olivia!! She's refused every time I asked her but ths time she kissed me on the cheek. Ahhhh...life is great!
On a side note: I MISS MY FAMILY!!! GUYS I'M READY TO COME HOME! I LOVE YOU!

I love the bubbles video! I was thinking about asking Blake to get you a massage when you get home! glad you thought of it too! Justice keeps saying," I want to see my cousin Olivia eating." Of all the precious videos of her talking and dancing around, for some reason, he is facinated that she can feed her self. Go figuer.....This blog is the most wonderful thing you could have done for thoes of us stateside. Thank you so much for your beautiful words and photos.
love your sister Vicki
How sweet, a little kiss. I'll bet you will hold that in your heart forever. I'm glad that everything is going well and that you are not trapped in the north. I wish you had heat though. But it's also really good to hear that you have good food to eat.
Stay warm! Sending hugs to both of you.
oh your first kiss...what a treasure.
I know those men of yours are ready for their girls to be home;)
Olivia is just so precious! She seemed to not be bothered by the med exam at all. I love the stories of her hanging on to those little crocs.
We stayed at the Victory for one of our trips, also...and loved it!! Not sure if anyone told you this, but if you want to go to the playroom at the WS...if you just knock on the door-another parent will let yous in to play. We did that several times.
Happy shopping! : )
Glad you made it safely to Ghangzou! You are doing a wonderful job with Olivia! It won't be long and you'll be in the comfort of your own home!
Hi Lynn,
My DH Larry and I love to read your updates every morning. You are such a great blogger. Can Olivia be any cuter!!!!! Sounds like Olivia is doing great, and bonding just like she is supposed to. I know God has given you such patience to know, it's all in her timing. Not to much longer, and you'll be coming home. I'm glad you traveled with kind people to help you out at the airports. You will need a message when you get home for sure.
All I can say is that God has shed his grace on you, you are a wonderful person and an extraordinary mother, you are a blessing to my life.
God bless all of you.
Love, Kristy
I admire you so much...you are so strong. I'm sure you are inspiring many who read this - those who will walk in your shoes someday.
Olivia is obviously very strong too...she has already come such a long way. Her smile melts my heart. Can't wait till you can get her home! Tell your hubby to run out and buy lots of bubbles!
XO
Hi Lynn,
Glad your trip is behind you and you can finally eat again! Sorry about the hear - I can relate, that's how Rome was while we were there over Christmas - didn't think I would ever get warm! Olivia is so beautiful! I'm so glad things are going so well - it sounds like she is way ahead of schedule to me! She's doing great. Hope you will feel better - know you can't wait to get home.
All our love, Raye M & M
OMG, she is beautiful. My girls were from Guangxi also and we stayed at the Majestic in Nanning. We so loved it! We were even happier that they were from the southern province due to the climate. (We're from south florida.) I can't even relate to it being cold, no freezing there! It was in the high 80's low 90's when were were there in late March 2 years ago. Ugh..... But, you have the greatest treasure of all. Your daughter. She is adorable.
I love hearing about all of the progress that you are making. Poor thing, I know the pollution was really bad when we were there, allergy medicine helped me. I laugh at her wearing her Crocs, Myah loves hers too! Looks like an inviting room, wish it was warmer! Won't be long and you will be home! Yeah! You are just amazing, we are all praying for you!
oh man -that pic of her crying on the plane has left me with tears in my eyes -and I have to go to work in 5 minutes!
Glad you're enjoying the GZ food :)
a kiss?! yay God! small steps that totally warm your heart. will keep praying for God to continue to heal this precious little one's heart as she learns that you and her family are FOREVER.
Thank you for sharing so much of your journey. It is helping me prepare. What joy to get a sweet kiss from your girl!
What size is she wearing? Maggie is said to be about 23lbs(with all of those clothes on). I am getting 18 months at this point and some 12months...any suggestions?
Glad to see all is going well. You are a great photographer!
I was moved about your story when you were leaving Nanning. I felt exactly the same way. Leaving where our daughter came from was very hard. Nice to know we weren't the only ones.
Best wishes for better health, an enjoyable time in Guangzhou and a safe journey home.
Matt
Lynn,
God's mercy and grace are new every morning and it is apparent He is with you and Olivia every step of your journey. What a wonderful testimony to others! I am praying for your health, strength, and rest.
:) shirleen
Love the video... what a little trooper this girl is... thanks also for the tip on the air quality - that I am not looking forward to... I think I am going to have to bring one of those masks...
Lynn,
You are on the homestretch now. I think you will like Guangzhou as there is a lot to see and do. It feels a little more like home too. I can not believe there is no heat there. I am a native Floridian so I would have surely had atough time wih the cold you are dealing with. I am so enjoying following your blog. I am absolutely smitten with Ms. Olivia. Can she be any cuter??? My husband who normally does not follow any blogs has really enjoyed watching all Olivia's cute videos. :) Hurry home!
Hi! I'm Lauren!! I found your blog on the Seventh Diamond. I love checking each day. Olivia is SOOO cute and I'm glad everything is going well so far! I pray that the rest of your trip goes well!
Lynn, it's so great to read your day-by-day progress and trials, I feel so blessed to be able to follow along on your journey. It hurts my heart to read about her grieving, I know it's expected and right and you are right that God will heal her little heart.
She is so beautiful and has the sweetest voice and laugh. Love the bubbles video! :)
You're doing a great job, I hope the time seems quick until you get back to your family!
Oh my goodness--A kiss!!! YEAH! Lynn, I actually think that Olivia is doing everything exactly as she should ( and you too, Mommy). how perceptive of her to greive as you were leaving her province. It is good. She needs to do let nad kudos for you for letting her get it all out. In the end.. your bond will be amazingly strong. I am totally in love with Miss Olivia. She is amazing and he Mommy is too.
I cannot wait for Kate to wake up and watch another video. She loves them:) Stay warm. We're praying for you.

Hi Lynn, I have been following your trip to Olivia. She is beautiful and I am so happy so see how well she is doing!! God bless you both.
You asked for suggestions with the cold and your breathing. I had the same problem on both of our trips. I had lots of essential oils with me to help with the breathing, but besides that my saving grace was the hot shower that never runs out of hot water. There were nights where I would sometimes let it run for an hour or longer with the bathroom door open. I would just let the steam pour into the room. I would always do it just before bed and immediately upon getting up. Sometimes during the night as well. The steam will help to keep your head clear and to help keep all that pollution from taking hold in your lungs/head. Bonus, it will also warm you up if you get chilled with "no heat" situation.
Hope it helps!!
In HIS Mighty Grip
